Robert Hartford is a licensed psychotherapist in Washington, DC, California and New York and Philadelphia. He specializes in working with the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and questioning community. Specialized SCT* techniques are used to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve relationships. Robert is also an executive and organizational coach.
Robert presented at the XVII International Congress for Group Psychotherapy and Group Process in Cartagena, Columbia in 2012, Rovinj Croatia, 2015 and will be presenting in Malmo, Sweden in 2018. A licensed System-Centered* Practitioner with the Systems Centered Training and Research Institute, Robert is a former director and a trainer for the annual international SCTRI Conference and Trainings in Boston, Philadelphia and San Francisco. He has over 15 years of post-masters advanced training with SCTRI. He works with Executives individually and as an Organizational Consultant in a variety of Industries, and is experienced working with executives in the Legal, Medical, Educational, Banking and various Government Agencies.
Robert is one of only a few certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) in DC. EFT is the most researched and effective approach for distressed couples. Research shows that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and 90% show significant improvements in an average of 20 sessions using this model developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. Robert has worked as Mental Health Practitioner with the County of Marin, California, as a Consultant to the San Francisco Unified School District. He received his training at San Francisco General Hospital, Psychiatric Department and Kaiser Department of Psychiatry, earning an MSW from San Jose State. He has worked with the Valley Aids Project, Stop Aids Project, San Francisco, Continuum services, Philadelphia Community Health Alternatives, and the Aids Information Network.
